Boreas
Boreas, the north wind, was the son of Eos, the goddess of the dawn and Astraeos, the god of starlight. He was an unsuccessful rival of Zephyrus for the affections of Chloris (Flora). When his attentions were spurned by Oreithyia, the beautiful daughter of Kekrops, the king of Attica, he wrapped her in a cloud and carried her off to Thrace where she bore him three children: Zetes, Calais and Chione. Known for his strength and fury, Boreas is credited with having saved Athens by creating a storm that destroyed an invading Persian fleet. He is depicted wearing a heavy cloak and warm boots.
