Chinese New Year |
Chinese New Year celebrations are from 5 to 7 February, in the year 2000. The new year will be called the Year of the Dragon. Beijing is having a big celebration, and this is the biggest celebration of the year in China. There are lots of parades through the streets with music, dancing, and large paper and cloth dragons. Outdoor vendors will be selling traditional foods and in the evening, there will be lots of fireworks. (After all, the Chinese were the first people to invent fireworks!) Over this time, families will get together for family reunion banquets, pin up New Year paintings, and let off firecrackers. They will go out and watch dragon, lion and yangge dances and lantern shows. The Spring Festival is a time for chasing away evil spirits and praying for good harvests. |
