Shopping in China |
In China the money is yuans, not dollars. One NZ dollar is the same as about 5 Chinese yuan. You can buy lots of things as souvenirs of China - flags, and small crafts of the Great Wall. You can buy little windmills made of paper and bamboo and those ones are normally hand made. But the best thing is that they put tiny drums on it and when the windmill turns, the drum goes: "bong bong bong." They just cost 1 or 2 Chinese yuan, which is about 20 to 40 cents NZ. |

Another thing that you had better buy when you go to the great-wall is those small crafts of the great-wall. They are quite heavy and they have different prices depending on how big they are. The one I have is 8 Chinese yuans, and the biggest one is 20 yuans. Shops are open seven days a week. In winter the hours are 9:00 am to 7:00 pm, and in summer the hours are 9:00 am to 8:30 pm.
As well as buying things from the shops, you can buy from stalls and markets on the streets. It is all right to bargain at these stalls, but in the big shops, the prices are fixed.
