Is PVC toxic?

Should babies be chewing on PVC toys?

No. They are toxic chemicals. They are easily absorbed. We know they show up in children's bloodstream.
Dr. Michael McCally
Director of Community Medicine
Mt. Sinai, NY, USA.

It is unacceptable that our children are exposed to chemicals in such quantities - especially when they are so young.
Lars Carlsen, DSC
Director of Research
Department of Environmental Chemistry
National Environmental Research Institute
Denmark.

When you see a "non-toxic" label on a toy, you assume that toy is safe for your child. The label, however, might be deceptive. Toys made of soft PVC plastic (better known as vinyl) contain dangerous additives that can leak out of the plastic and be swallowed by children. These chemicals, which include lead, cadmium, and toxic softeners, may cause permanent damage to the brain, liver, and other parts of the body.

All of these toys are toxic. That means
they contain dangerous chemicals,
and could poison a baby sucking
on them.
