What is bullying?

Bullying is when people do mean things over and over again, in a situation where there is an imbalance of power.

There are three things that mean it is bullying, not just being nasty:

  • They are mean on purpose
  • They repeat the meanness
  • There is an imbalance of power (that means they are more powerful than the person they are bullying)

When bullying is going on, there are three kinds of people involved.

There is the bully, who is doing mean things, and there is the victim who is being bullied.

And then, there are the bystanders. These are the people who stand around and watch, or walk past and see what is going on. They are the ones with the power to stop what is going on. So what kind of a bystander are you? One who just lets the bullying happen, or one of those brave enough to stop it?

Think about it!
