News Team Roles : Geologist

This person is the expert on earth’s structure and the plates that make up the earth’s surface. The Geologist's role will be to explain why volcanoes occur in this part of New Zealand. They may also compare volcanoes in New Zealand with other parts of the world. The Geologist should work closely with the volcanologist.

You need to know about the Ring of Fire, .and also about the structure of the earth. Go to the library and look for some information there too. You will need to explain what tectonic plates are, and how they can give rise to volcanoes.

You need to make a big KidPix or Dabbler diagram made to use when you are explaining the structure of the earth on the news. You and the volcanologist may also get together to make a model of a volcano to use on the TV show (if you like).
