Mrs.Butter: Yes Sally, I am not very common in this area.Adult butterflies may move among different habitats in search of more suitable environments or even partake in long migrations such as the monarch. I donít really consider myself as an adult butterfly yet though. Sally: What are some differences in the way you look compared to other other insets? Mrs.Butter: Well, as you can see my wings are green, blue, and purple, some other insects donít have wings. I have one butterfly friend with wings that are bright pink. All butterflies have 2 pairs of wings and our bodies are covered with scales or modified hairs, which gives us our beautiful color. Butterflies have strong muscles in our thorax which forces our wings up and down on a fulcrum basis. We butterflies are very beautiful because of all of the different designs and varieties of colors. We can get up to many different colors of wings, which are all very beautiful. Sally: How do you sleep or rest without getting smashed? Mrs.Butter: Well Sally, itís not very hard to keep from getting smashed if you are a butterfly. Most of us are able to camouflage, because of our colors of our wings. Despite our small size we are some of the worlds most wondrous animals. Most of us rest with our hind wings or both wings. Some of us like to sleep in trees, which I prefer. We donít usually sleep on the ground, because we butterflies are very smart and wouldnít want to get squashed. Sally: How many species of butterflies have been found? Mrs. Butter: Well Sally, scientist estimate that there are approximately 12-15,000 species of us. There are thousands and thousands of butterfly species that havenít been found or described by scientists. Sally: So, what is some of your favorite foods? Mrs. Butter: Well, I eat locust, clover, and other plants. Those are some of my speciality foods. Sally: Well, we thank you very much for letting us interview you, and we will catch up to you soon! Mrs. Butter: Thank you very much for
interviewing me and Iíll be looking forward to what
new is happening with me. |
