Interview with Lightning (The Firefly)

Fred Bread: Well folks, we have a real treat here today! We have an interview with Lightning.

Lightning: Tank you Fred Bread, actually... Iím a firefly, Also known as a soft sided beetle of the Lampyridae beetle family.

Fred:  Tell me, what time are you usually awake?

Lightning:  Iím awake at night.  People call me nocturnal.  That means that you are awake at night, and asleep in the day.  If you ever go outside at night in the spring, summer, and early fall you can see me.

Fred:  That is very nice.  What do you eat?

Lightning:  When I was just a larvae, also known as a glow worm, I ate Snails, and earthworms.  Now that I am a Grown Firefly, I donít eat anything.

Fred: Really? Wow, arenít you starved now?

Lightning: Nope, Not at all.

Fred: Could you describe what you look like personally.

Lightning: Handsome, attractive...

Fred: Thatís pretty funny, but what do you really look like?

Lightning: Ok, well, we have 3 legs on each side, and we have a head, thorax, and abdomen, on our abdomen we have a bulb that really emits heatless flashes of green-yellow light made by organs in the abdomen. The light is also used to attract mates.

Fred: How do you think you compare to other insects, i mean like, how would you stand out?

Lightning: Well, I think that I stand out because, well, what other bug has a bulb on his abdomen.

Fred: So you think you stand out?

Lightning: Darn right Ms.

Fred: What did you look like when you were little?

Lightning: Oh, you know, I was like any other glow worm.

Fred:  What is your life cycle?

Lightning: Well I started out in an egg, then hatched into a larvae, then I went into a cocoon, and came out as a firefly. personally I think that the cocoon time was just a vacation from walking but now that I have wings, I donít have to walk.

Fred: So, where do you guys hang out?

Lightning: Oh I hang out in some fields and dense places. When you go out during the summer and look into the shadows of trees at night, you see little lights and, Iím not kidding, one time I heard someone say that we were little angels, but its just us.We live in North America and several other continents that are warm during the summer.

Fred: How do you survive in the wild?

Lightning: I hang around places that predators donít bother me. Plus I hang out at night when most of the Guys donít see me. I can fly pretty fast ,too.

Fred: But I thought that you werenít very fast. At least not as fast as a bee.

Lightning: Ok, well so I'm not much faster than a speeding worm.

Fred: What are unique characteristics about you?

Lightning: Well, I have a bulb which helps me stand out in a crowd. They can also use me in a flea circus as spotlights, just kidding.

Fred: How popular are you in the world, I mean are you a common sight?

Lightning: Well I am a pretty common sight, but only in the summer.
Fred: What is your scientific classification?

Lightning: A Soft sided beetle of the lampybrae family.

Fred: Well thank you Lightning for joining us this time, we hope to see you again
